Will a BULLET PROOF Tesla actually stop bullets?

Its time to shoot a bulletproof Tesla... Get 1000 miles of free supercharging when you get a Tesla using my code: ts.la/zack10701 And thanks to ArmorMax for letting us 'borrow' their Model S. www.armormax.com/
See what happens when the tires go flat HERE: • What's inside a B...
How Bulletproof is a bulletproof Tesla? What makes a car bullet proof? How much does a bullet proof car weigh? Can you make any car bulletproof? All of these questions and more will be answered in todays video where we find out if a Bullet Proof Tesla is really bullet proof. Ill be using a pretty common 9mm hand gun to fire projectiles at the fully bulletproof Model S Tesla. The cool Green laser sight I used in this video: amzn.to/2G9nyxz
Adding bullet proof glass and paneling to a Tesla does add some weight to the body. BUT since Teslas are already pretty heavy its not a big deal. Loosing a few miles of range due to the extra weight might be worth it for the added protection.

I've thought about getting a bulletproof windshield not because I'm paranoid about being shot, but because I've seen what road debris can do when it flies through your windshield. Seems like a good investment IMO

If you do this again...... It would be interesting to see how many shots in the same location it would take to penetrate the poly carbonate, wouldn't necessarily have to be on Tesla. Also interested in seeing the same test when shooting the windshield in order to show if the extreme angle may help with deflecting energy. But it would be interesting to see how many shots it takes until failure! Thanks for the video:)

What would be really nice to know and test is if a 2nd bullet would go thru if it hit the same spot. I think this is very important to be able to protect a driver and passenger from multiple rounds hitting same area. Because hand guns have dozen or so rounds it would be logical to have glass that can withstand 2 rounds in same spot. Otherwise it is less safe.

Bulletproof can withstand a full pistol mag. A rifle could significantly weaken it but you still have high chances of escaping. There are armor piercing bullets that are specifically designed for this jobs, those are the ones you should be worried about. And hey, if you get hit with those type of bullets, just know you really pissed off Uncle Sam..

I noticed at the third shot, it looked to me like maybe your hands are not quite in full position when you’re shooting: the gun flinched downward and missed. You need to have your hands in full support position before you pull the trigger. When at a shooting range, I will often stage the trigger before doing some final precise aiming to avoid too much repositioning tempting.

Might the second bullet impact seem smaller because you are shooting at already broken glass... this would mean the energy distribution is much more efficient than a clean glass therefore less cracks will be made? you should have use shot at a new new window to test your theory efficiently... anyway still pretty cool video! :)

The second round you fired was actually a R.I.P. round, it's made to dissipate energy differently from a standard hollow po where instead of expanding the leaflets separate from the slug in a soft target to cause as much trauma as possible, it's probably the worst armor penetration round possible

The hinges of the door also to be beefed up. Otherwise, the hinges will fail with frequent opening & closing of the door. Depending on how the car is to be driven, upgrading the brakes & tires would also be advisable.

Maybe the hinges, but the added weight is only equivalent to 2 to 3 passengers so no real need to beef up the brakes and tires but hey, money is not an obstacle to anyone bulletproofing their Tesla! PS: I WANT ONE!

That's not a standard hollow point. It's a RIP 9mm (radically invasive projectile). The petals are designed to make separate wound tracks in flesh, leaving the rear of the projectile to continue on. The petals wouldn't make it into the glass because they're designed for soft tissue. Hence the small hole.

Yeah I'd like to see a full 17 round mag dump into the window. And also the hollow points don't cause more damage when shooting something solid like this. Hollow points are lighter and meant for self defense because they don't penetrate as much and will fragment inside of something not just from hitting it.

The thing i dont like about any of the bulletproof vehile testing, is when someone is shooting at you with an automatic weapon, it is pretty much quarantined to hit at least 2 bullets at the same spot. So they should test, what happens with glass, when shot multiple times at the same spot.

First off, the second bullet you used was a G2 research bullet. It has less mass and the only thing that would be causing damage would be the center portion not the "flanges". Secondly, stop jerking the trigger; you always are hitting a little left and down from where you're aiming. A good practice tip is to use an unloaded firearm and set a penny or a dime on the end of the barrel, then pull the trigger without the coin falling to the ground. Makes for more reliable accuracy. Range time, range time, range time. All in all, great video.

The RIP bullet has a smaller impact because it is solid copper and didn't have enough space to break apart. The FMJ round has lead inside that is way softer and a very thin layer of copper allowing it to mushroom on impact making it a larger area. Also the FMJ round is heavier than the RIP.

Ok so the reason the hollow point is smaller than the regular brass bullet is the hollow point is ment to have a small impact point and spread inside of a body, not to come out. If you used a stronger bullet alloy it would have been diffrent.

I’d like to see 6 shots right into the same center point. All ball ammo, maybe a little more powder / hotter. Hollow point depends on soft tissue so they don’t load it hot or the shell would go through the bad guy before it extends.. and after it goes through that bad guy you need to worry about innocent bystanders

You forgot one important test: Repeated point of impact; shoot three times on the same exact point of impact. Talking about phones that resist bullets, there are some phones that their screens can resist some kinds of bullets (like a magnun gun) without any visual damage and no electronic damage to its touch screen. But there are designed for that, not just adding a protective layer to a normal screen. There is also another phone that has a screen that can resist 100 AK-47 consecutive impacts from a 2 meter distance. They tend to cost less than 1000 €, much less, some are on the range of 300 €. The shows where verified by some 'mad' buyers that shot their own phone (also iPhone, and other brands) to test against different king of bullets. My old mobile was one of that ones, tested with a droping 2Kg steel ball from 50m, ... etc. If impact is done on 'center' of the screen the phone survives with no visible damage. But one time it falls off my hands from 20cm to ground, it hit the ground with sceen down, the hit point was on

The first bullet is a FULL METAL JACKET ( must used for training at the range); the second its NOT a HOLLOW POINT round nor acts like one ; it's a RIP round made just by one company and acts completely different than a hollow point. HOLLOW POINTS are made to mushroom out inside soft tissue and stopping there delivering all the power of the round to the attacker but more importantly they are design not to leave the attacker you are shooting at and are less likely to hit an innocent person because of that. Those Rip rounds are more of a novelty and are a type of FRANGIBLE round design to break apart into 8 pieces (in this case) and a small core that would act like an fmj round once separated and keeps going ( not good). Must ppl that know about guns ( and gun safety) won't put them in a carry guns because they can get stuck in the barrel feed ramp; causing malfunctions; plus when they hit soft tissue those little petals open and break apart in the skin and the round doesn't stay toguether and that point the center core acting like an fmj keeps traveling and therefore can innocent bystander.

The hollow point made less damage because it's not made for penetration, bur stopping power, if you want to penetrate that thing you would need a full metal jacket bullet

So ik this isn't a gun channel but I've noticed something about hollow points or at least 9 mil hollowpoints and when i sent shooting at an actual range for the first time i noticed this as well: hollow points typically have a silver colored casing compared to regular rounds (not sure what to call them) , rounds you'd shoot at the range have brass casings. why is that?

The 2nd and subsequent impact of bullet has to be smaller than the 1st one because the energy is transmitted in the same fracture line of the previous impact. Thats simple science bro. If you really wanna check the difference of impact in both bullets, you gotta shoot another glass. Well I can understand, its a little "hard" to do that 😂😅

Why would you think it would be bigger? More expansion means smaller shards, which means less penetration against bullet proof glass. Maybe I'm wrong in explanation, but I knew it would be smaller. That's like opposite of AP rounds.

      1. Modern bulletproof glass is designed in order to resist this, but if you hit it in the same spot over and over, the glass will cave eventually. A tesla is definitely not the most effective car for bulletproofing. 2. Depending on what type and how the bulletproof glass was installed, and what car the glass was installed in. The strongest bulletproof glass is usually curved slightly outward to provide rigidity, so I'd imagine the glass would be less effective from shooting from the inside.
