Glass Only Apple Watch 4 Screen Fix - NEARLY IMPOSSIBLE!
The Apple Watch Series 4 has a glass screen. And glass.. you know... can break. Especially when you're doin' active people things like closing your circles. HUGE thanks to my buddies over at www.Fixdirepair.com for helping with this Glass only Apple watch repair. Check them out if your watch is broken, (cuz I'm definitely not going to do it again.) He has other videos on the series 3 Apple watch: • Apple Watch Serie... since each Apple Watch version is a bit different.
His channel: / @fixdphones
Attempting a glass only Apple Watch repair is probably the hardest 'cell phone' repair there is. And I highly recommended not doing it. The most difficult parts of replacing the screen on an apple watch is making sure not to damage the... well... everything. The force touch ring between the glass and the metal body, then the touch sensitive layer right under the glass, and the display right under the touch sensitive layer... The Apple Smart Watch is a fragile sandwich of complexity. Good luck.

Outstanding video. I'm impressed with the quality of your images and how your soundtrack is a crisp clean voice over without an annoying goofy music overlay! Your details including tools and things to pay special attention to are part of what makes this a professional educational video. My only wish is that you had included sources for the special adhesives and glass you used in the repair. I worked for 5 years in an advanced technology lab where ALL our work was done under a microscope and feel confident enough to attempt the challenge you conquered. THANKS for sharing your experience and keep up the great work!

ItzCryssie I was able to do it successfully! since I’ve made over $3000 doing it. I broke a couple of digitizers but it only costs $10 more to get a screen with a digitizer. I also recently went bigger and successfully took off the glass from an iPhone 12, if everything goes well I could make $400! All this is thanks to this one video.

Your friend had actually a great idea with replacing those displays, Apple charges horrible amounts of money for that, and if you find a way to do it as good as or at least comparably well and cheaper, you've got a big market right there.

Although I didn't have the sound on, this success is remarkable. Just as with repairing (and maintaining!) traditional mechanical watches, training greatly helps success. Modern electronics is often lots harder to repair (and manufacture) than in the days of tube (valve, UK) TV receivers. Indeed, heat guns without adjustable temp. (or exchangeable heating elements - Master, decades ago - risk overheating.

UPDATE: It took me 2 hours to get the screen completely free of dust particles, and so far so good, everything works 🎉 I just tried this on a 4th series, the bad part is thst I broke the really thin glass layer on top of the digitizer, the good part is that i've removed the digitizer and the display is still in one piece, hahah. Now it's waiting time for the new part to arrive. Very informative video btw!

Not only does a new display cost a lot of money but I am fairly certain that Apple Pay also doesn’t work if you switch the whole display assembly, as the nfc antenna is paired to the board. This makes it even less worth it to change the display itself and further necessitates these kinds of repair. Keep up the great content and hopefully we will see less of this kind of nonsense from Apple as right to repair continues. 👍🏼

Hi Jerry, I have an Apple watch series 4 44mm with a broken glass. An Authorized Apple Service Center does not do this type of repair and suggests that I buy a new one. However, for me, the watch still functions well and I have no issues with it so I don't want to let it go. But in the Philippines, there are a lot of people who offer this type of repair for a cheap price and I am tempted to try it out. But upon seeing you try this process it made me think twice. I worry that there might be issues after 1-2 weeks of using it. What do you suggest I do?

I got a Series 3 38mm Apple watch replaced under insurance, so I tried this repair on the broken watch (nothing to lose right?). It is even MORE difficult with the Series 3 as the front glass has the digitizer in it too - so when removing the old broken glass you have to separate it from the O-LED display surface (which is soft and very easily damaged). I got right through the whole repair process, but at the end only part of the display lights up, so must have got damaged while removing the glass. A very fiddly process - took about 3 hours.
