Redmi Note 7 Durability Test - It almost survived...
The Redmi Note 7 is one of the best budget phones you can buy. Powerful specs, Tons of features, and... a plastic frame. Will the Redmi Note 7 survive every day use? Yes. Will the Redmi Note 7 Survive extreme abuse? No. Most phones do survive my tests. The Redmi Note 7 did not. It took 3 strong bends. But the phone did give up the ghost when the screen cracked. The front glass however, did not break. Just the LCD under the glass. Interesting.
Would a plastic phone frame make you nervous?

@M. Pruidze Sure, but even if it doesn't survive Zack it can survive drops. I dropped my Redmi Note 7 like 10-15 times, (about half carpet, half kitchen tile) without a case or screen protector, and I never had a problem with it. (Not to mention 0 signs of wear and tear after 2 years.)

Nah, it's can fail bend test also. Because "fold" screens can fold only in one axes without breaking. This is why this technology was dead since first prototypes in mid 2000, and still dead in our times. You just can't do much things with a "foldable" phone. It's not so obvious what the point of this device, why you can be needed for this? Just to play with it?

I will buy a note 7 tomorrow, and it's good to know the level of durabillity that the device provides, the weak (and strong) points and how far you can go with it, so I could be careful with it in the future, thank you Jerry, you surely helped a lot of people especially with budget chinese phones.

Wow, phones in general have become more durable, if this is Zacks least durable phone of the year. And even this phone at least almost survived. I remember the Nexus 6P, Nextbit Robin, Honor 6X etc. which did far worse than this one. You really have an impact on the phone manufacturers. Keep the work up man💪

Hi Jerry, Thanks for this informative video. I am using redmi note 7 pro which has nearly identical build like redmi note 7. Here's my honest opinion. 1. I completely agree that most common alloys such as stainless steel comes with hardness lower than that of glass on level 6. Therefore all the pocket objects such as coins or keys aren't really a threat to glass panel. 2. The reality is something different. I got a ugly scratch on my camera lens within just few days despite being used with a cover. Thankfully that really affect the image quality. But it's disappointing because it's glass. Here's what I found: I believe common dust has more abrasive properties as compared to other objects. They don't really leave very deep straight grooves but, series of soft bubble like scratches. They're more responsible for daily life wear. The composition of dust varies greatly depending upon the environmental conditions of that area. But, they may comprise of particles of silica, ceramics and glasses, limestone, amorphous carbon, etc. Many of them are harder than glass and very very common to find on any outdoor use. Therefore, I would suggest to also include a dust resistance test to get an idea of these in real life. I believe, smartphone manufacturers should consider this as a priority in design.

The frame actually is the thing below the plastic and the glass, in normal phones. That is why the pocophone doesn't break. Unfortunately, this note 7 was more focused in technology and looks, reducing the build quality. However, I'm sure it will be much more resistant than any of the new m series from Samsung.

thank you for this review, i have this phone for 6 months now and i don't use it without the case for the probability of blend, but fortunately it seems to be strong enough, i have dropped a few times and used on mtb, running, calisthenics and trips and it has be a champion, the only thing that breakes every time is the screen protector, nowadays those things are made of eggs it seems

I personally do not mind the plastic that much. Since I use the case that you get with the phone, I do not have to worry about scratches, and it has a better chance of surviving when dropped. My friend dropped his phone with a metal frame, and his screen cracked not from the impact of the fall itself, but from the metal frame basically shattering the screen. P.S. I'm not trying to say that a plastic frame is better, just saying that there are always pros and cons to something.

My redmi note 3 took a hell lot of abuse, and for close $150 with a decent camera and Snapdragon 650 back in 2016, it was awesome and still running flawlessly. I won't say bend tests are completely meaningless, but I don't count bend tests as deal breakers. Everyone knows how big of a hit Nexus 6P was and it failed the bend test, well I have that phone too and it's still with my grandmother running a custom ROM.

I think that a most realistic test would have been more intresting : how it survives (or not) a shock when it falls depending on the height, and how many times it Can fall before breaking.. these are more commo situations than a cutter or stepping on it (flexibility) as shown on this video..

Fun story - I've somehow managed to put a solid scrap along camera protectivve glass, even though maker of this video couldn't do it. And I think that scrap was made not by some metal object, but a mere bread crumb, while I was using stock silicone case, which goves 0 elevation and protection of camera glass.

Out of curiousity: why do you prefer the bend over the drop test? I must say - I really enjoy you doing it, but I don't remember applying such pressure on my phone by mistake (maybe accidental sit/step on top of it). Dropping - that's like once every 2 months for me. So my math is: 1 year of life = 6 drops, and maaybe 1 little bend.

For any people who wants to buy the phone but are afraid, you don't have to worry, i been using one for a year now, right now im writing this on my redmi note 7, and so far, i haven't had problems, it's really durable, do keep in mind that i use a glass screen protector and a case, they aren't expensive, just for extra protection, i do recommend those as well, I also have give it heavy use, and still like new after a year, just a little dusty, i haven't cleaned it for a month, bit if you needed info from a actual user, we'll there it is.

Watching on my Redmi Note 7... Well at least I know the weak point of my phone. Something to look out for. It's not really a threat though, because even if I drop this phone on the floor many times it won't bend nor break the screen that easily like the previous Redmi phones. Even the back glass won't crack easily thanks to the gorilla glass 5 protection. Unless I apply force on purpose hitting those weak points on the button holes, the phone will surely break. Great video btw 👍

Well, I've never bent one of my phones even by accident, so I think it will survive for a long time XD but the info from the scratch test is appreciated
